About Us

Yamaha Golf Cars of the Virginia's became a Yamaha Golf Car distributor in the fall of 2007. The company is a spin-off of Virginia Power Motorsports, a dealer for Can-Am, Club Car and Stihl products.

In 1979 Harold started Phillips Communications & Equipment, a company focusing on the buying and selling of both new and used telephone central office equipment, the big stuff that directs my phone to yours. As Harold’s business grew he began buying the entire central office inventory which included everything from desks and chairs to mammoth switches and cable racks. Harold began accumulating a large collection of desks, filing cabinets and other office equipment. It was then that Phillips Warehouse Sales was established. This business was so successful that he began to look for furniture liquidations, discontinued and obsolete items to keep all of his customers satisfied and begging for more. He would attend store closings, business foreclosures and bank auctions; it was at one of these auctions that Harold first came across some golf cars that a bank had repossessed. Harold was outbid on these golf cars but it got him thinking.

It was from these golf cars that the power sports business was born and as this business grew Harold and his son Gary began to look for a big name golf car company to represent. This happened at the 2006 PGA Merchandise Show when Gary and Harold stopped by the Yamaha booth and explained that they were looking for a golf car line to sell to members of their Club and for use in other retail applications. The rest, you could say, is history. After about a year as a dealer, a distributorship became available and then the growth began. Harold and Gary then started their quest to bring aboard persons with fleet sales and parts and service experience.

Gary Phillips is the General Manager of both Yamaha Golf Cars of the Virginia's and Virginia Power Motorsports and oversees all aspects of the business with special focus on our retail operation, which occupies twelve acres on a busy section of US 29, just north of Charlottesville. Our service facility is located across the highway where Harold has another eight acres and over 100,000 square feet of warehouse space. It is here that we prepare cars for all retail and fleet sales, house our parts inventory, and recondition and service customer and fleet cars.

We are always looking at different ways to serve our customers; we have added new cars and 4 and 6 passenger cars to our rental fleet to better serve our customer base. You will not find a better rental fleet in our territory.
